Prescribing

Hospitals and other healthcare providers are increasingly faced with the challenge of optimizing their work processes while at the same time increasing the quality of service. TMM provides physicians with an easy to use tool for entering medication prescriptions in electronic format to support their daily routine of reviewing and updating the medication treatment for patients.

Through the use of advanced decision support TMM provides users with capabilities that go far beyond just placing orders for medications to be delivered to the patient. With sophisticated medication control and innovative features users are able to accomplish their task faster and in a more structured way.

The prescription module is full of new and innovative ways for working with prescription configurations.

Therapy based prescribing

Traditional systems allow the user to specify individual prescriptions for each drug to build up the medication profile for a patient. TMM goes further and gives users that possibility to configure certain multi-drug therapies in one go, providing all information clearly at once on the screen.

An example of this is the way users are able to configure anti-coagulant treatments for patients by allowing the user to concentrate on what really matters, e.g. the target INR values and daily dosing, while at the same time reviewing actual information on how the treatment is affecting the patient. Also, supporting medications are shown along with the main therapy for easy overview.

Out patient module

In order to provide patients with total care, physicians want to be able to have access to all information about the patient’s medication at all times. It is important that physicians are not wasting their time searching for information and receiving incomplete information even if it has been registered in computer applications many times before. TMM addresses this problem with the out patient module. In this module physicians are presented with a simpler interface where the emphasis is on keeping the medication card of the patient up-to-date and accurate over a longer period of time and not bound to a single admission to the hospital. In this module, depending on the legislation in each country, physicians are able to configure prescriptions that can be printed out and used in retail pharmacies for patients that come into the hospital for an appointment with a specialist.

Graphical interaction control

TMM uses an innovative way to represent interactions in a graphical manner that replaces dozens of pages of written text. At the same time this picture provides the user with all the important information needed to make a decision.

Protocol and drug default support

Protocols can be configured for quick retrieval and configuration later on. The system can be configured and set up in such a way as to minimize the time needed for routine prescriptions at the bed-side.

Infusions configuration

Theriak is in the final stages of releasing an infusions module that allows users to configure and prescribe infusions, taking into account all preparation considerations and management of fluids related to the infusion. This important new functionality will eliminate many of the risks surrounding the handling of infusions, mostly concentrated around the preparation stage. Again, TMM is setting new standards in how medication management software is assisting in the complete medication process.

Dispensing

Support for the nursing staff in the logistical processes is imperative in order to realize the organizational gain of a software package like TMM. The software brings numerous improvements into the process for the nursing staff in order to gain acceptance as the main entry point for documentation on drug usage. TMM has a number of uniquely easy to use features that help make TMM the favorite application of the nursing staff, including time saving overviews for up-to-date information on the status of the patient‘s medications.

Data

Theriak takes advantage of drug information from different sources and the Theriak team is constantly seeking new ways of integrating valuable data into the application. Automated checks on interactions, dosing, routes etc. are all an integral part of making the medication process safer and more efficient. The Theriak team works with the clients in Europe to define the best sources available and the best approach in utilising the information for any given installation.

Real time dispensing and delivery status

By glancing at the screen, the nursing staff is able to determine whether or not the rounds can be made or whether some information is missing. This saves the nursing staff vast amounts of time and virtually eliminates the need for running back and forth to the ward stock during administration rounds.

The nursing staff is also able to determine whether or not all dosages for anti coagulant treatments have been finalized and to take the appropriate action if needed.

Dispensing registration

TMM is able to monitor automated dispensing by robots or automated ward stock which takes a lot of the hassle out of the work of nurses.

Bed side verification

The final and a very critical step in the whole loop is the administration of the medication. TMM provides the user with a number of mechanisms to verify that the correct patient is getting the correct medication at the right time. Other information like route, dosing etc can also be verified upon administration.

Pharmacy review

TMM is able to filter all prescriptions made in the system and forward to a pharmacist for reviewing. The reasons can be e.g. overdosing, severe interactions or simply that the drug is not in stock according to the pharmacy stock management system. The pharmacist is presented with a list of only the relevant prescriptions where action needs to be taken (configurable) and is able to work through this list, making decisions and having them immediately communicated to all relevant users that access the prescriptions in question.

This module is very important in leveraging the pharmaceutical knowledge that pharmacists have but are unable to use in the paper based world because of the inherent delays in paper based processes.

Emergency Module

The emergency module is an important module that dramatically increases the operational safety of TMM as a computer application. As any other computer application, TMM is vulnerable for catastrophes like power failures etc. The emergency module makes sure that a text based version of the current information is made available to users in case disaster strikes. The output can be a paper printout or stored on computers with higher level of security.

LDAP Module

The LDAP module makes it possible to integrate TMM into the user management infrastructure of the hospital, saving hundreds of hours in management work by centralizing all user management for all IT applications. In this module privileges and other user specific settings can be managed in a simple way in order to provide the optimal operational convenience of TMM in the institution.

PocketPC administration registration

Bed side verification can be performed by using hand-held devices in TMM. This provides the nursing staff with optimal support for quickly and safely registering all relevant information during the rounds.

Theriak has developed an application that makes it possible for the nurse to complete the rounds and registering medication delivery to the patient, protecting the “5 rights” of the patient; right patient, time, drug, route and dose.
