Diabetes Solutions
The purpose of the Orion DRSS solution is to achieve the following;
- Management of patient pathways and clinical workflow by Implementing a reliable and easy to use system that supports all Healthcare Professionals in their day to day activities.
- Achieve community (mobile), optometrist and hospital based DRSS screening models whilst providing a system with a clear evolution path to the future requirements of both the programme users and the patients.
- Provide accurate information through concise audit and statistical outputs pertaining to the performance of Diabetic Retinal Screening services in the area covered by the programme
- Meet national guidelines for Quality Assurance and safety in clinical practice across the programme for the benefit of both the patients and healthcare professionals.
The Orion DRSS solutions meet and exceed NSC compliance in the following target areas;
- Patient pathways and clinical workflow
- Community (mobile), optometrist and hospital based screening models
- Data Transfer (HL 7 messaging)
- Quality Assurance
Patients and Contacts
The Patients and Contacts screen contains all the patient demographics. Identifiers such as NHS number or a pre selected PIN can be used for identification. Further fields outlining the patients full name, address and contact details are included and can be masked depending on the level of permission granted to the user.
Patient episodes can be recorded and updated for existing patients using the edit function, the programme allows new patients to be added at this point should an unexpected patient present themselves at clinic.
Clinical information is collected form medical users with pre selected text replacing the need to input large amounts of script, this includes referral to clinical ophthalmology. Archiving patients is made possible to remove the selected patient from the screening queue and suspend active recall for a defined period. Patients archived can be grouped or listed for identification and audit purposes, patient reports can still be updated from a clinical ophthalmology perspective.
Scheduling
Accurate and easy to use scheduling represents one of the key feature of a successful screening solution. At CIS Healthcare we have developed the most ergonomic drag and drop scheduling system allowing straightforward setting up of screening venues together with automated generation of patient screening lists for assigning appointments slots.
The electronic calendar format allows the scheduler to generate sessions over an unlimited period creating a matrix of venues from recourses available within the programme. Patients can then be sent an electronically generated letter requesting they phone in to a pre determined location for booking. Appointments can be allocated and the patient informed of their allotted day and venue.
The Orion DRSS solution fully supports NSC process for central administration, once a patient is booked the system will update all patient records and remove the patient from the queue. Updates to clinical records can then be automated with information sent back to the medical practioner.
Grading
Graders examining images within the Orion DRSS solution will have only access to their relevant section in line with the NSC guidelines accurate grading methodology. Using the search engine a pre assigned queue of patients or images can be generated. A full functional grading screen then opens allowing full image manipulation or annotation to occur with measurements recorded then copied automatically across to the patient information screens. The system will not allow primary and secondary grading by the same user, in addition a randomly selected 10% of grading are referred back into the grading queue to be re graded and reported on for Quality Assurance management.
Systems Administration
Administrators of the Orion DRSS solution have full management control over the access and configuration of the system. Access to sections of the programme can be withheld to all but high level clinical users, this enables a secure process for both protection and safety of the system and patient data.
Pre selected reports can be generated and assigned to specific functions effectively streamlining the reporting and administration processes. Additional functions included database management, Image transfer and remote grading requests.
Specific rules can be assigned to the grading and workflow process allowing the system to be configured in line with clinical practice.
Audit and Statistics
Audit and Stats is a key area in the management of any DRSS programme. NSC guidelines stipulate that a full audit trail should be in place enabling detailed review across all aspects of the service.
To enable accurate audit, statistical information must be available breaking down all activities, diagnosis and treatments into related numerical fields for validation and comparison.
An example of how the Orion DRSS Stats package will assist users is in the management of Optometry grading at remote locations The system will manage and record on the number of gradings sent to the Optometry practice, then issue new image sets up to the maximum allowable per month per optometrist, the system will then record the ratio of outcome on disease / no disease, arbitration and diagnosed retinopathy. The Orion DRSS Audit and Stats package fully complies with NSC guidelines.
