Medication Logistics

The comprehensive medication logistics functionality enables pharmacies to optimise their operations and medication delivery to linked hospitals, ensuring efficient stock management and on-time medication delivery for prescriptions.

Theriak Logistics integrates all systems involved in and relying on medication logistics within the hospital. These are primarily the medication management system, the stock management system and the financial system.

Where applicable, Theriak Logistics integrates with automated pharmacies and supports unit dose dispensing. We have successfully installed over five large sacle unit dose systems across Europe. It supports the pharmacy workflow for preparations and handles the relevant communication between sterile production and the hospital.

Receiving prescriptions from the medication management system, Theriak Logistics automatically routes the prescription based on configurable logistical parameters for each medication. These parameters can be based on the workflow of each hospital and pharmacy, such as always dispensing medication from ward stocks, or automatically ordering acute prescriptions without user interference in order for the medication to be on the spot as soon as possible. The pharmacists can review the routing decisions and modify as needed, using the generic substitution decision support or changing based on stock levels if needed. Then, with one button-click, Theriak Logistics takes care of the rest, ordering automatically for the duration of the prescription without need of further input from the pharmacists. Only if parameters change will the prescription be flagged for review again.

Theriak Logistics can be configured to send alerts to beepers in special cases requiring urgent attention, such as if ward stocks run low, urgent orders arrive, or medication is requested that is not available in the pharmacy. To close the logistical loop, Theriak Logistics also informs the financial systems of all dispensed medication and the dosage to enable correct invoicing.

Theriak Logistics is extremely flexible and further advantages include stock reconciliation support, special handling for narcotic medications, and the ability to stock medications in both unit doses as well as multi unit packages. Additionally, reports on medication usage and ordering history, expiration dates, and user activities are available for all locations.

Scalable and flexible

Theriak Logistics is designed to be very scalable and customisable. It suits single hospitals as well as hospital groups, whole regions or even as a countrywide installation. The system supports networks containing more than one pharmacy, multiple stocks per pharmacy and multiple EPJ systems in each hospital. For locations that do not have EPJ systems, Theriak Logistics can be installed as a partial system to maintain stocks and even order for patient prescriptions separately. Whatever your scale of operations, Theriak Logistics fits the need, offering great flexibility and maximum control over a complex logistical environment. For example, in the UK our Chemotherapy system operates across 15 separate hub and spoke networks providing users with a single solution regardless of which hospital they are prescribing from.
