CIS Oncology Confirmed as Leading ePrescribing Supplier to Cancer Networks.

The benefits of implementing electronic chemotherapy prescribing have been long understood and have been supported by ministerial commitment to the widespread deployment of solutions across all cancer networks.

The cancer action team (CAT) in collaboration with NHS Connecting for Health (CfH) and Professor Mike Richards has been keen to ensure that cancer networks implement appropriate and compliant electronic systems. Over the past twelve months this team has undertaken a detailed and rigorous assessment of all solutions available in the market. This assessment included compliance with a nationally agreed specification, in depth scripted demos and most importantly assessment of applications in live use in the NHS.

The results of this benchmarking are now available and can be ordered by contacting eprescribing@cfh.nhs.uk. The results categorically confirmed CliniSys’ ChemoCare solution as the leading solution for chemotherapy prescribing in the NHS. In addition to the highest overall rating ChemoCare was also rated above each of its competitors in every assessment category.

CAT and CfH are encouraging rapid and wide scale take-up of solutions, further information on this process can be obtained via Gateway 6654.

Karol Sikora, Professor of Cancer Medicine and a leading cancer specialist commented. “I am delighted at this significant announcement of funding being made available to ensure that more hospitals providing chemotherapy services can benefit from the safety and security offered by electronic prescribing. ChemoCare provides demonstrable improvements in patient safety as highlighted by recently published audit results of prescribing errors pre and post implementation of ChemoCare by my colleagues at UCLH.”

CliniSys welcomes this renewed commitment to the deployment of chemotherapy prescribing solutions. With approximately 150 trained healthcare IT professionals working across the UK, CliniSys is well placed to support all cancer networks. CliniSys has a long and successful track record of supporting Trusts in developing their business cases and in the deployment and support of clinical systems.

David Newell, CliniSys’ director for oncology expressed his delight at the outcome of the benchmarking exercise ‘CliniSys has worked in collaboration with the NHS for over 10 years in this area and we have continued to invest in the addition of new functionality to support the NHS Cancer Plan and the evolving needs of the cancer networks. Significant new modules are being added to ChemoCare this year which will extend its lead in the market even further.’
