| | The Devon ChemoCare Consortium goes live with ChemoCare® chemotherapy prescribing
solution.
This procurement was initiated to provide the Consortium with an electronic prescribing system
for adult and paediatric, solid tumour and haematological chemotherapy for South Devon Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust in collaboration with Royal Devon and Exeter NHS Foundation Trust and North Devon Healthcare NHS Trust. The formal European procurement process took
five months from OJEU advert to project kick-off with the final selection of ChemoCare being
made because of the solution’s unique ability to meet both the National OBS for chemotherapy
prescribing and the specific local needs of the Trust.
Go live then took place with the first tumour group at Torbay Hospital on 8th December 2008 after
a concerted team effort involving both staff from the Network and CIS Oncology.
Richard Excell, Project Manager of CIS Oncology, commented “I am delighted that the Devon
ChemoCare consortium has chosen to purchase ChemoCare and that the first delivery has gone
to plan with no major issues. This successful implementation shows the capabilities of CIS
Oncology to deliver to schedule. However, this is in no small part due to the commitment of the
Devon ChemoCare Consortium and the calibre of their Project Team.”
Dr Steve Smith, Medical Director and Consultant Haematologist at South Devon Healthcare NHS
Foundation Trust, added: "This has been a very successful collaboration to date, and the go-live
was delivered on time. When the system is fully implemented across all the tumour sites across
Devon we will have very robust processes and systems in place to manage cancer chemotherapy
prescribing."
