| | The NHS National Services Scotland has awarded the contract for a National Chemotherapy ePrescribing and administration system (CEPAS) for NHSScotland to ChemoCare® from CIS Oncology Ltd.
The contract provides a National Framework whereby each of the Regional Cancer Networks, West of Scotland Cancer Network (WoSCAN), South East Scotland Cancer Network (SCAN) and North of Scotland Cancer Network (NOSCAN) can enter into individual Call Off Contracts detailing the software and services they require to support their patients and services.
The contract award further demonstrates Scotland’s commitment to cancer, and was highlighted as being important in supporting the safe delivery of chemotherapy within Better Cancer Care, An Action Plan published in October 2008. The procurement was initiated in September 2006 and involved assessment of functional, technical and performance requirements for the Software and Services.
ChemoCare® will provide safe chemotherapy prescribing and administration and gives each patient a single lifelong electronic chemotherapy record that is accessible to designated members of the multidisciplinary team across the pathways of care and from multiple geographical points of service delivery.
The Call Off Contract for WoSCAN has also been agreed and implementation is underway. The system is being hosted at the Beatson West of Scotland Cancer Centre in Glasgow and will be implemented across a further 12 hospitals across the region starting with the New Victoria Ambulatory Care Hospital.
Dr Bob Masterton, Regional Lead Cancer Clinician welcomed this development stating that “working in partnership with CIS Oncology WOSCAN will be able to deliver real improvements in how we provide chemotherapy services across the region. The implementation of ChemoCare supports one of our key goals to safely deliver care as close to home as possible. This development will help us manage the introduction of new cancer medicines across the west of Scotland, monitor the uptake of cancer medicines more effectively and better understand clinical outcomes. We don’t underestimate the challenges that lie ahead in implementing what will be the largest networked solution in the UK and look forward to working with CIS to deliver the benefits that this system will bring for patients in the west of Scotland.”
CIS Oncology is proud to be the leading supplier of chemotherapy prescribing and management systems in the UK with over fifteen years experience in successfully delivering solutions to the NHS. Tony Pegg, Chief Executive of CIS Oncology added, “We are delighted to be working in partnership with NHSScotland to deliver ChemoCare© on this national project. With our extensive experience of what is required to successfully deliver and support oncology systems throughout the UK, we believe we are ideally placed to support all three regional networks on the achievement of the CEPAS goals”.
